Lee Fang, from The Intercept, reports that police unions in Maryland have defeated all reform bills proposed by the legislature, and describes the state as having “extraordinarily cop-friendly laws.”
The Baltimore Fraternal Order of Police alone has donated $1.8 million to elected officials throughout the state. The group employs professional lobbyists and uses social media to organize lobbying delegations composed of law enforcement personnel.
